On July 24, an employee of China Shenhua’s Baotou Chemical encountered and rescued an injured young grey heron during a routine inspection. The grey heron is a terrestrial wild animal with important ecological, scientific, and social values. After providing attentive care, the employee promptly transferred the bird to the relevant wildlife protection authority in Baotou City for professional treatment, demonstrating the Company’s commitment to ecological conservation through concrete action.
While conducting an inspection tour on the pipe rack platform of the polyethylene plant, the duty employee spotted a bird with an unusual appearance huddled in a corner. The fledgling was small in size, with greyish-brown plumage, a sharp, curved beak, and alert eyes, yet it was unable to fly. Considering the complexity of the equipment in the production area and the potential safety risks, the employee decided to rescue it on the spot. After donning protective gloves, the employee gently and carefully placed the frightened fledgling into a cardboard box, moved it to a safe area, and promptly provided it with water, taking every precaution to minimize distress and harm. Through reference checks and preliminary identification, the employee determined that the bird was likely a young grey heron, a terrestrial wild animal with important ecological, scientific, and social values. To ensure it received professional care, the employee immediately contacted the wildlife protection station of the local Forestry and Grassland Bureau. The young grey heron has since been transferred to the station for treatment and will be released back into the wild upon recovery.
