Baotou Chemical's Newly Built Project Reducing CO2 Emissions by 300,000 Tonnes Per Year

Recently, the CO2 Recovery and Comprehensive Utilization Project of Baotou Chemical was fully completed and put into operation, reducing CO2 emissions by 300,000 tonnes annually.

This project closely follows the national strategy for a comprehensive green transition of economic and social development and strictly implements the requirements of the demonstration projects featuring advanced green and low-carbon technologies, serving as a key green and low-carbon demonstration project in Jiuyuan District, Baotou City. Leveraging the process advantages of the low-temperature methanol washing unit at the methanol plant's purification unit, the project conducted precise optimizations and modifications to the existing production system. By adding a dedicated CO2 export pipeline, the project collects and exports high-purity CO2 product gas from the unit. The gas is then pressurized and liquefied by downstream enterprises before being transported to oilfields for oil displacement and storage, thereby converting CO2 from waste into a valuable resource and enabling its recycling.

Since its operation, the system has run reliably and stably, with all industrial parameters meeting targets, enabling large-scale CO2 export and utilization. Under the cooperation and settlement model, the project will export 300,000 tonnes of CO2 annually in its initial phase, with capacity expected to increase to 500,000 tonnes per year after two years, continuously generating stable economic benefits for the enterprise.

In addition to economic returns, the project also delivers significant social benefits. By recovering and utilizing CO2 from the production process on a large scale, the project substantially reduces the company's total carbon emissions and effectively eases regional environmental pressure. The operation of this project further improves the company's carbon resource recycling system and provides a valuable demonstration for low-carbon technological transformation and green upgrading in the coal chemical industry.
