Recently, Taishan power plant in Guangdong Province organized more than 50 employees and their children to visit a local Chinese white dolphin protection base to raise their environmental awareness and recognize the importance of protecting the Chinese white dolphin, nicknamed the “giant panda of the sea.” This campaign allowed the children to have a close contact with this rare species and understand the significance of environmental protection.

The Chinese white dolphin is the flagship species and indicator species in the nearshore marine ecosystem. It is also the only wild animal in the dolphin family under first-class state protection in China, and a “living indicator” for evaluating the quality of an individual marine ecosystem. In the Science Education Hall of the protection base, the docent explained the skin color changes, body structure, living habits, and geographical distribution of the Chinese white dolphin, as well as its relations with mankind, to the children through physical specimens, graphic displays, animated videos and other forms. In a quick Q&A session, everyone rushed to answer questions, heightening up the interactive atmosphere. This campaign deepened participants’ understanding of Chinese white dolphins and their habitats, and enhanced their awareness of marine protection. The participating parents and children expressed that they would do all they could to protect Chinese white dolphins and care for the marine environment.

As a long-time “neighbor” of Chinese white dolphins, the power plant has always practiced the core values of “pursuing green development and excellence” and integrated eco-environmental protection into the whole process of its operations ranging from planning and construction to production. It is actively promoting pollution and carbon reduction, increasing work efficiency through coordinated work, and spreading environmental awareness among all employees, as an enthusiastic supporter and practitioner of the concept that “lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets.”
