China Shenhua Energy Company Limited (hereinafter referred to as China Shenhua or the Company) actively builds constructive and strategic partnerships with the local communities where China Shenhua operates, maintains timely, candid, and proactive communications and exchanges with the communities, respects and protects human rights, respects local culture, religion, customs and business etiquette, avoids infringing on the legitimate rights and interests of the communities and residents, actively carries out community-building activities, and establishes good neighborly relations.
China Shenhua will implement the following measures to honor the above commitments:
1. Based on the culture, politics and customs aspects of the host country, China Shenhua will deepen the engagement with the local communities where the Company operates, foster harmonious relationships with the local communities via community development schemes such as poverty alleviation, education enhancement, medical care improvement, industrial support, infrastructure construction, disaster relief and traditional culture conservation, so as to provide the local communities with significant opportunities to benefit from the Company’s operation.
2. In compliance with the principles of resettlement and economic displacement stated in the International Finance Corporation (IFC) performance standards and relevant laws and regulations of the host country, China Shenhua will carry out resettlement and endeavor to avoid involuntary ones. If it is unavoidable, China Shenhua will act upon the publicized resettlement scheme, conduct earnest consultations with the affected communities, try its best to restore the original livelihood, provide fair and timely compensation, and minimize the negative impact on the displaced residents.
3. China Shenhua will attach importance to localized employment, create jobs for the local communities as many as possible, give priority to recruiting employees from local or adjacent communities, and further enhance good relations with the communities through localized employment scheme.
This statement is applicable to China Shenhua Energy Company Limited and its overseas subsidiaries.
