Shendong Coal has recently pioneered an immersive blind-spot experience model covering all employees and all types of mobile equipment, initially implemented at Shangwan Coal Mine. This pioneering practice, built on “experience empowerment, intelligent coordination and closed-loop management”, breaks through the industry’s traditional safety management framework and set an innovative model for mobile equipment safety control in the coal sector.
The model covered eight core types of mobile equipment, including flameproof personnel carriers, diesel and electric production command vehicles, loaders and material transporters. Staff entered the cab to directly observe risks such as bucket obstructions, front and rear blind spots, turning hidden hazards into visionable. After the session, they voluntarily implemented vehicle inspection, demonstrating the model’s effectiveness in enhancing safety awareness and overriding the passive , lecture-style education.
“Now we all carry out full-dimensional vehicle checks before operation to carefully examine the vehicle condition, braking system, lights and surroundings. We strictly control speed and maintain safe distances during operation, and avoid pedestrians and other equipment. We also share blind-spot risks and prevention experience during shift handover. Furthermore, we voluntarily act as safety supervisors and turn the sense of caution from the experience into standardized and routine safe operating habits.” said Wu Kui, Captain of the Motorcade at Shangwan Coal Mine.
The pioneering value was further demonstrated in the system. The company upgraded one-time experience into a closed-loop mechanism of “experience-realization-practice-consolidation”. Such transformation from fresh experience to a long-term mechanism sustained the effectiveness of reform and fostered a sustainable safety management ecosystem. It broke through the limits of traditional safety management and addressed the pain points in blind-spot control for mobile equipment with three innovations in model, integration and mechanism. This not only consolidated the safety foundation for the production, but also injected new vitality into safety management in the coal industry.
