On September 22(CEST), the operation control system for 35,000-tonne heavy-haul group trains, developed under the leadership of China Shenhua, made its debut at InnoTrans in Berlin, Germany, drawing widespread attention and unanimous acclaim from the international railway industry.

Designed to keep existing infrastructure, locomotives and rolling stock unchanged, the heavy-haul train group operation control system does not alter existing station layouts and requires no large-scale additions to trackside equipment. It can be upgraded in phases without disrupting the operation of existing lines, reducing system upgrade and retrofit costs. In terms of improving freight transport capacity, the system shortens headways through close following among trains within the group, increasing line-section capacity by more than 50%. At stations, group trains are received and dispatched using short-route operation, significantly enhancing station throughput capacity. According to conservative estimates, at the throat of Shenchi South Yard I and II, capacity increases by more than 75%, while throughput capacity of arrival-departure tracks rises by more than 79%.

According to reports, the InnoTrans 2026, themed “The Future of Mobility”, brought together more than 3,000 exhibitors worldwild, covering railway operation services, railway technologies, railway infrastructure, tunnel construction and other sectors.
