On April 28, the 2026 International Workers’ Day Celebration and the National May 1 Labor Award Commendation Conference were held in Beijing. Zhundong Open-pit Coal Mine under Xinjiang Energy won the National May 1 Labor Award.
Zhundong Open-pit Coal Mine is a key construction project of the coal industry in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region during the 11th Five-Year Plan period. With an approved annual production capacity of 35 million tonnes, it is an important part of China Shenhua’s hundred-million-tonne coal base in Xinjiang. Guided by technological innovation and green development, the mine continuously optimizes mining plans, upgrades large mining and excavation equipment, and steadily advances the construction of intelligent mines. It established Xinjiang Energy’s first application site for unmanned wide-body trucks in 2020, and realized the first batch of 24-hour normal operation without safety officers nationwide in 2022. It has now become the open-pit coal mine with the largest production capacity, the highest level of intelligence, and the earliest deployment of unmanned driving technology in China Shenhua.
With outstanding achievements, the mine has received multiple honors, including National Green Mine and Grade-One Coal Mine of the National Safety Production Standardization Management System. It has been rated as a Super-Class Safe and Efficient Coal Mine in the Coal Industry for three consecutive years. Its products are delivered by railway to northern and southern Xinjiang, as well as Sichuan, Chongqing, Yunnan and Guizhou, providing stable and reliable energy support for key industries such as power and chemical sectors both inside and outside Xinjiang.
