Recently, the Xinshuo Railway “Rail Transit ‘Grid-Source-Storage-Vehicle’ Collaborative Power Supply Technology Application Research” Sci-tech Innovation Project Phase I (0.38 MW) achieved grid connection and power generation at full capacity. This marks the first time that the Group’s transportation business has realized photovoltaic power generation and its successful connection to the 10 kV railway power system.

The “Rail Transit ‘Grid-Source-Storage-Vehicle’ Collaborative Power Supply Technology Application Research” Sci-tech Innovation Project is the first traction power supply demonstration project in China, which features new energy supply in a collaborative manner. The project officially commenced on June 25, 2023, at the Hailesihao South Station of the Xinshuo Railway. Through photovoltaic power generation, the project connects the power generated by renewable energy to the traction power supply system, enabling the connection at multiple sources. Additionally, renewable energy can be also used for power generation and storage, achieving a collaborative power supply with traditional energy sources to drive the safe and stable operation of electric locomotives.

The Phase I project involves the connection of a 0.38 MW photovoltaic power generation system around the Hailesihao South Traction Substation of Bazhun Line to the 10 kV railway power supply system. The photovoltaic system, through inverters, directly supplies the generated AC power, making full use of the self-generated photovoltaic power. It can also contribute to railway power supply together with the local power grid. As a demonstration project for “Distributed Photovoltaic Power Generation+ Transportation”, the “Rail Transit ‘Grid-Source-Storage-Vehicle’ Collaborative Power Supply Technology Application Research” Sci-tech Innovation Project, after grid connection, is expected to generate an average annual electricity output of 538,700 kWh, save approximately 165.92 tonnes of standard coal annually, reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 413.64 tonnes every year, and save an estimated annual electricity cost of RMB242,000. This will effectively reduce the carbon emissions in railway transportation and promote the development of railway power supply in a more environmentally friendly, clean, and efficient direction.
