A Research Project of Xinshuo Zhunchi Railway re Subgrade Freezing Prevention and Control Passed Final Acceptance

Recently, a scientific and technological innovation project, entitled “Research on Railway Subgrade Freezing Damage Prevention and Control Based on Active Heat Regulation” and implemented by CHN Energy Xinshuo Zhunchi Railway (Shanxi) Co., Ltd., has successfully passed the final acceptance.

Based on the utilization of solar energy and geothermal energy, heat regulation method, proposed by Shijiazhuang Railway University (research and development undertaker of this project), furnishes a new idea on railway subgrade freezing damage prevention and control, which is helpful to promote green development and achieve the national strategic target for “Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality”. With active regulation theory of heat balance as the cornerstone, this research project probes into active fine regulation method and technology of subgrade-roadbed heat through the use of geothermal energy and solar energy resources, takes shape railway subgrade freezing damage prevention and control system based on active heat regulation, and serves dual purposes, i.e., real-time and precise subgrade temperature control, and railway subgrade freezing damage prevention and control.

The experimental site is located at the spot “K44+980-K45+000” downwards Zhunchi Railway, with a length of 20 meters. The freezing damage prevention and control system based on active heat regulation, built at the experimental site, consists of subgrade heating end, roadbed heat collection end, heat conversion device, solar power supply system and operation control system. In order to verify the effectiveness of this system and provide data support for the optimization of this system, a set of test systems is installed, which consists of subgrade temperature field test, roadbed temperature field test and subgrade deformation monitoring and other subsystems. Finally, both real-time and precise subgrade temperature control and subgrade freezing damage prevention and control was realized. The research result of this project indicated significant innovation, popularization and application value in freezing damage evaluation methods, active heat supply and anti-freezing technologies for railway subgrade. With a view to constructing “Smart Railway”, this project is of great significance to improve railway operation efficiency and ensure railway traffic safety.
